Key takeaways

  • Luxeed arrives in Australia around mid-2027 with the LLounge people mover
  • Stormax performance SUV follows, but its Australian timing is unconfirmed
  • Pricing, powertrains and final specifications are yet to be announced

Luxeed, the new premium brand from Chery, will launch in Australia around the middle of 2027, led by the right-hand-drive LLounge luxury people mover. Luxeed International chief executive Shawn Xu confirmed the plan to Australian media after the brand’s global launch in Wuhu, China, on Wednesday.

The Stormax performance SUV will follow, but its Australian arrival date has not been announced. Xu described the people mover’s timing as the end of the second quarter, and the LLounge still has to complete Australian testing before it goes on sale.

Luxeed LLounge targets Denza and Zeekr

The LLounge is the export version of the Luxeed V9 sold in China. Luxeed developed it in right-hand drive from the start, with Thailand first in early 2027, followed by Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. Australia and New Zealand are due around mid-year, with the UK a little later.

In China, the V9 is a six- or seven-seat range-extended EV with a 53.4kWh battery and a claimed 1320km CLTC range. Those are Chinese-market figures, and Luxeed has not confirmed export powertrains, so they should not be read as Australian specifications.

Local rivals will include the Denza D9, from $85,990 before on-road costs, and the Zeekr 009, from $115,900 before on-road costs. Both are electric. The Kia Carnival dominates the wider segment with 10,948 of the roughly 15,000 people movers sold in Australia in 2025.

Stormax performance SUV and no Huawei tech

The Stormax is sold in China as the RX. It uses an 800-volt electrical system and dual motors producing 460kW and 775Nm, with a claimed 0-100km/h time under 3.9 seconds. Again, these are Chinese figures.

Luxeed cars in China use Huawei driver assistance and a HarmonyOS cockpit. Xu said international models will carry none of Huawei’s hardware or software. A Chinese media report indicates they will use Chery’s own electrical architecture, driver-assistance system and cockpit software instead. Export versions will also be styled differently from their Chinese counterparts.

Luxeed Stormax

Luxeed plans to start with conventional dealerships in major cities and is not setting big first-year sales targets. Xu said the brand would rather start slowly and build a solid foundation.

Luxeed is one of several Chery Group brands heading to Australia. Pricing, powertrains and final specifications for the LLounge have not been announced, and it must pass local testing ahead of a mid-2027 launch.
