Explore the Mercedes-Benz range

Mercedes-Benz has opened orders for the all-new C-Class electric in Australia, with the C 400 4MATIC electric priced from $105,700 before on-roads. It’s sold in a single grade with dual motors, all-wheel drive and up to 753km of WLTP-tested range.

Customer cars are expected in Australian showrooms in early 2027.

C-Class electric performance, range and charging

Two electric motors produce a combined 360kW and 800Nm, sent to all four wheels through Mercedes’ 4MATIC system. The claimed 0-100km/h time is 4.0 seconds.

Unusually for an EV, the rear motor drives through a two-speed transmission. First gear handles acceleration from a standstill and city efficiency, while second gear takes over at higher speeds to help with motorway range.

The 94kWh usable battery runs on an 800-volt architecture that supports DC fast charging at up to 330kW. Mercedes claims up to 325km of WLTP range can be added in about 10 minutes on a compatible high-power charger under ideal conditions.

The Google Maps-based navigation plans routes and charging stops around battery charge, traffic and driving style. It can also precondition the battery to the right temperature before a DC fast charge.

Moving to a dedicated electric platform has freed up storage space too. There’s a 470-litre boot at the rear and a 101-litre frunk up front.

How the C-Class electric compares with BMW’s new i3

BMW confirmed Australian pricing for the electric i3 on 30 September and both cars are due in showrooms in the first quarter of 2027.

BMW i3

The C 400 is priced between the $96,900 i3 40 xDrive and the $112,900 i3 50 xDrive, and it’s quicker than both. Even the 345kW i3 50 xDrive needs 4.7 seconds to reach 100km/h, compared with 4.0 seconds for the Mercedes.

The BMW claims the range advantage, with up to 912km WLTP for the i3 50 xDrive and peak DC charging of 400kW. Both i3 grades also include adaptive suspension and heated rear seats as standard, while Mercedes charges extra for both through its option packages.
