Explore the Xpeng range

Xpeng has revealed its G9L large SUV at the Paris Motor Show, offering range-extender and fully electric powertrains, up to seven seats and a claimed combined range of up to 1200km.

The G9L is confirmed for Australia, where it will become the brand’s largest SUV alongside the G6, X9 people mover and L03. Xpeng says local pricing, specifications and launch timing will follow in the coming months.

How the Xpeng G9L range-extender works

The headline powertrain is Xpeng’s Kunpeng Super Electric range-extender. A dedicated 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine works only as a generator, so the wheels are always driven by electric motors.

It’s paired with a 63kWh LFP battery rated at 287km of WLTP electric range, several times what most plug-in hybrids on sale in Australia offer. Once the generator kicks in, total range stretches to a claimed 1200km.

Xpeng says the system prioritises battery power around town and brings the generator in on the highway or under heavy load. It also claims less than 1dB of difference in cabin noise between generator-on and electric-only driving in its own testing.

The pure EV uses a 110kWh battery and claims up to 591km of WLTP range, with the 430kW dual-motor version rated at 553km. Its 540kW peak charging rate is more than Australia’s public fast chargers can currently deliver.

At 5120mm long, 1998mm wide and 1788mm tall on a 3100mm wheelbase, the G9L lines up against large three-row SUVs such as the Kia EV9, Hyundai Palisade and Volvo EX90. Six and seven-seat layouts are offered overseas.

It rides on dual-chamber air suspension with continuous damping control, while rear-wheel steering is designed to make it easier to park and turn in tight spaces.
